How 15 local businesses scored online, and what the results say about an industry-wide opportunity
What We Measured
Houston’s industrial service sector is built on precision, reliability, and deep technical expertise. These are companies that handle the work most businesses can’t: scaffolding for refineries, lifting equipment for petrochemical facilities, thermal coatings for industrial pipelines, mechanical systems for commercial properties across the Gulf Coast.
But when we audited 15 Houston-area industrial service company websites in October 2026, what we found wasn’t precision. It was an industry-wide pattern of websites that are letting these businesses down quietly, costing them visibility, credibility, and inbound inquiries without anyone noticing.
This is not a criticism of these businesses or their work. Every company in this review is skilled, established, and trusted in their space. The gap isn’t in what they do. It’s in how their websites represent them online and whether those sites are working as hard as the people running them.
- Security: SSL validity, security headers, vulnerability exposure, CMS version visibility
- SEO foundation: Meta title and description quality, H1 tag presence and structure
- Image optimization: Alt tag coverage across all site images
- NAP consistency: Whether the site’s business name, address, and phone number are present and clearly readable by search engines
- Technical health: Sitemap presence, analytics setup, schema markup
- Overall score: A composite grade from 0 to 100
Each site received a letter grade using the following scale:
- A: 90-100
- B: 80-89
- C: 70-79
- D: 60-69
- F: 0-59
The Results
Of 15 Houston industrial service company websites audited, not a single one received an A grade.
Grade distribution:
- A (90-100): 0 companies
- B (80-89): 4 companies
- C (70-79): 4 companies
- D (60-69): 3 companies
- F (0-59): 4 companies
The average score across all 15 sites was 65.3 out of 100. More than half of the companies audited scored below 70, placing the industry average squarely in D territory. One in four companies received a failing grade.
A Note on NAP
Company by Company
Coastal RGP: Score: 87 / Grade: B
Industrial equipment supplier, Dickinson, TX
Coastal RGP was the strongest performer in this group. Their NAP is clean and confirmed: Coastal Resource Group, 2025 Nichols Ave, Dickinson, TX, (281) 549-4132. All 10 images are properly tagged, the meta description passes, and the title tag is clear and keyword-relevant. The CMS version is exposed and a handful of security headers are missing, but the overall foundation is one of the strongest in this group. A small refinement away from a top score. Download the audit (PDF)Unity Cooling Systems: Score: 86 / Grade: B
Commercial refrigeration and HVAC, Houston, TX
Unity Cooling is well-configured for local search. Their NAP is fully intact: Unity Cooling Systems Inc., 3213 Penn St, Houston, TX 77093, (281) 818-5959. All 50 site images are properly tagged, their sitemap is active, and schema markup is in place. The site carries 15 medium-severity issues and is missing several key security headers, which are the primary opportunities for improvement. The meta description also leans conversational in a way that could be tightened for commercial buyer intent.
Hoover Solutions — Score: 80 / Grade: B
Intermediate bulk container supplier, Houston, TX
Hoover Solutions has strong infrastructure. All 7 images are tagged, security headers are partially in place, and analytics is active. The site’s business name is detected as “Hoover CS” and the phone number (800-848-8683) is present, though no address is surfacing on the homepage for search engines to read. The primary SEO issue is a duplicate H1 tag. Search engines expect one H1 per page. Two sends a mixed signal about what the page is about and is an easy fix with a real payoff.
Curran International — Score: 79 / Grade: C
Anti-fouling coatings and heat exchanger solutions, Houston, TX
Curran International is a global company with a serious technical reputation. Their phone number (281) 339-9993 is present, and an address at 4610 Vicksburg Lane is detected. However their business name is being read by the audit as “curranintl.com” rather than their actual company name, which is a structured data gap that can affect how Google identifies and verifies the business entity. The title tag leads with “Home” rather than a keyword, and the CMS version is exposed. These are incremental gaps holding back an otherwise capable site.
HHI Lifting — Score: 77 / Grade: C
Rigging and lifting equipment, Houston, TX (est. 1960)
HHI Lifting has been in business since 1960 and that history shows in their H1: “Houston’s Rigging and Lifting Supplier Since 1960” is one of the stronger headlines in this group. Their NAP is solid: Holloway Houston Inc., 5833 Armour Dr, Houston 77020, (888) 496-4700. The title tag is running a few characters too long and will be truncated in search results, and three of 273 images are missing alt tags. The foundation is good and needs light optimization rather than a rebuild.
Ironclad Environmental — Score: 77 / Grade: C
Liquid storage and waste management rental assets, Houston, TX
Ironclad has a confirmed business name (Ironclad Environmental Solutions), a phone number (833) 428-6844, and active GA4 and GTM tracking. The significant gap is image alt coverage: 22 of 59 images are missing alt tags. For a company in the environmental and waste management space, those images almost certainly include equipment photos, project shots, and fleet imagery that Google cannot currently read or index. That is a meaningful SEO loss hiding in plain sight.
Houston Industrial Tradesmen — Score: 76 / Grade: C
Industrial staffing and recruiting, Houston, TX
Houston Industrial Tradesmen is a staffing firm. This site has solid fundamentals. All 16 images are tagged, the H1 is well-targeted, and both the title tag and meta description pass. Their phone number (832) 582-7691 is detected, though no business name or address is surfacing for search engines. For a staffing and recruiting firm competing in Houston’s industrial labor market, local entity clarity matters. Strengthening NAP structure and adding security headers are the clearest next steps.
Lone Star Turbo — Score: 65 / Grade: D
Centrifugal blowers and air compressor rentals, Houston, TX
Lone Star Turbo has a clean title tag and functional meta description. Their NAP is present: Lone Star Blower and Compressor, 8883 West Monroe Road, (832) 532-3112. The site is carrying eight critical security issues along with five high-severity issues and an exposed CMS version. The SEO score of 82 shows the on-page work is solid. The security layer is where attention is needed most. For an industrial equipment rental company where buyers expect operational reliability, a site with critical vulnerabilities sends the wrong signal before a prospect ever picks up the phone.
Step Up Scaffold — Score: 61 / Grade: D
Scaffolding manufacturer and supplier, Houston, TX
Step Up Scaffold has a passing title tag, good image alt coverage, and a confirmed business name and phone number (888) 783-7870. No address is detected on the homepage, which limits local search signal. The meta description runs just over the character limit and gets cut off in search results, and one critical security issue is active. For a company serving refineries and industrial construction sites where credibility is everything, these are worth addressing.
Gray Mechanical — Score: 60 / Grade: D
Commercial mechanical contractor, Houston, TX
Gray Mechanical‘s NAP is confirmed: Gray Mechanical, 15534 West Hardy Road, (281) 820-2200. Their meta description and H1 are well-written. What is pulling the score down is a security profile with eight critical issues, tied for the highest count in this group. For a commercial contractor whose buyers research online before making calls, a site carrying that level of vulnerability is a real operational risk. The title tag also runs 14 characters too long and will be truncated in search results. Download the audit (PDF)Bay Insulation Systems — Score: 58 / Grade: F
Metal building insulation, Houston, TX
Bay Insulation has a strong title tag and a relevant H1. Their NAP is partially confirmed: Bay Insulation Systems at 2929 Walker Drive, with a phone number present. The site is carrying one critical security issue, 14 of 20 images without alt tags, and a meta description that runs nearly 200 characters and gets cut off in search results. For a company with real search demand from commercial builders and contractors, the gap between what their site could rank for and what it currently does is meaningful. Download the audit (PDF)Mascoat — Score: 56 / Grade: F
Thermal and sound insulation coatings, Houston, TX
Mascoat is a 25-year-old company with a serious global reputation, and their website has a NAP issue that stands out in this group. The business name being detected on the site is “Henkel,” their parent company, rather than Mascoat. For local search purposes, this creates an identity conflict. Google may struggle to reconcile the Mascoat brand with the Henkel entity, which can suppress local rankings for branded and category searches alike. Beyond the NAP issue, there is no meta description on the homepage, which means Google writes one on their behalf every time. The site carries three H1 tags where there should be one, and 10 images are missing alt tags. This is a company whose online presence significantly underrepresents the caliber of their work. Download the audit (PDF)Forney Construction — Score: 44 / Grade: F
Commercial general contractor, Houston, TX
Forney Construction has a confirmed business name and a partial address (8945 Long Point Road & 9008 Circle), but no linked phone numbers is detectable on the homepage. For a commercial contractor, a site that does not surface a phone number to search engines is missing one of the most basic local trust signals available.
The title tag reads “Home – Forney Construction,” the meta description runs over 350 characters and gets cut off at about a third of the way through, and one critical security issue is active. For a firm with a strong project portfolio in Houston’s commercial construction space, the website is not doing that reputation justice.
Apache Services — Score: 40 / Grade: F
Civil and industrial construction services, Houston, TX
Apache Services has no H1 tag on the homepage and no meta description. The title tag reads “HOME | apache” at 13 characters. Their business name is detected only as “apache” in lowercase. Their phone number (713) 475-2200 is present and address are present, which are the strongest NAP signals on an otherwise thin homepage.
One critical security issue is active. This site has significant untapped potential. The underlying business appears strong. The website just is not set up to communicate that to search engines or the buyers researching them.
Macaulay Controls — Score: 38 / Grade: F
Water and wastewater treatment solutions, Webster, TX (est. 1965)
Macaulay Controls is a 60-year-old company with deep roots in the Houston industrial market, and their website has some of the most significant structural issues in this group. The audit detected an address, no phone number was found on the homepage, and the business name did not surface as a structured data element. For a company that has served the Webster and Greater Houston area for six decades, that level of local search invisibility is a significant missed opportunity. Beyond NAP, the site has 18 H1 tags across audited pages, 51 images without alt tags, no sitemap for Google to crawl, and a meta description running to 183 characters that gets cut off in search results. The title tag is 67 characters, seven characters over the recommended maximum. Download the audit (PDF)The Patterns
Reading across all 15 audits, five themes emerge consistently:
Security headers are nearly universal gaps. Only two companies in this group had any of the three key security headers fully in place. Most had none. These headers protect visitors and send trust signals to browsers and search engines. Their absence is the single most common technical gap across the entire group.
NAP is inconsistent and often invisible to search engines. Of 15 companies, several had no address detectable on their homepage, two had no phone number, and at least two had business names that did not match their actual brand. NAP consistency is how Google verifies a business is real and local. Without it, even a well-built site can struggle to rank in local and regional searches.
Meta descriptions are an afterthought. Two companies had no meta description at all. Several others had descriptions running well over the character limit and getting truncated. The meta description is a company’s best chance to control what searchers read before deciding whether to click. Not having one, or having one that gets cut off, hands that decision to Google.
Image alt tags are systematically neglected. Collectively, the 15 companies had more than 100 images missing alt tags across their sites. For industrial companies whose differentiation often lies in the scale and quality of their work, project photos and equipment images that Google cannot read are a silent SEO loss.
Critical security vulnerabilities exist in multiple sites. Three companies are carrying eight or more critical security issues. These are not theoretical risks. They are active vulnerabilities that automated bots scan for daily. For companies where operational credibility is central to winning business, a compromised or offline website is a real threat.
What This Means for the Industry
What It Takes to Fix It
The good news is that most of the issues identified in this audit are fixable without rebuilding a site from scratch. For many of these companies, the right move is a focused optimization effort that addresses:
- Security header configuration
- NAP structure and consistency across the site
- Meta title and description rewrites
- H1 tag corrections
- Image alt tag completion
- CMS version hardening
For companies carrying critical security vulnerabilities or deeply structural issues, a more comprehensive approach including managed hosting with proactive security monitoring may be the better starting point.
